devin lafo_week 5_translucency

i poured 2mm, clear-glass beads into my mold so that the mold was entirely full... poured wet rockite mix into beads.... the hope was that since the beads are all touching each other, there would be translucency... again, did not really work though the texture is pretty great... bought some optical fiber on ebay that i'm going to try next

version 1

version 1: mixed resin with concrete (before the pour) to try to get some translucency at least maybe around the edges... didn't really get that, but the concrete has an interesting finish... it looks wet, but it is 100 percent dry... also, the resin deformed the foam core mold, so the horizontal planes are wavy.

version 2

version 2: poured resin into mold, then poured concrete into it... the bottom of the mold is fused to the block, but the top surface is pretty interesting... the translucency might be cheating here though...

devin lafo_week 3_playing with form

foam core mold, standard concrete... used all straight lines to form curvature... definitely like the form, but want to play with materiality as well

version 3

stuffed three molds with different sizes and amounts of rocks... tried to create tight grid, so that concrete would not really penetrate all the way through... i lubed up the rocks with the hope of being able to pull some rocks out and be left with their void and impression, but didn't work... not a single rock was visible, they pretty much just became aggregate. so i cracked the three blocks open, and this is what i got.

devin lafo_week 1_wood section, texture

trying to get the texture off the sections of plywood used for the mold... didn't really turn out as well as i had hoped perhaps because of the small scale and too dry of a mix

Groups

Hello,
I was wondering if there was a group that needs another member, for I am groupless at the moment. Thanks
